Military Batteries Australia is a specialist division of Lithium Batteries Australia (www.lithbattoz.com.au) engaged in the design and manufacture of specialised lithium battery energy storage solutions for the government, mining, oil, gas and industrial sectors. All batteries are designed and manufactured locally in Sydney, Australia to meet the specific project or application specifications provided by our customers.

Military Batteries Australia manufacture batteries in traditional block style, 19-inch rack mount format and also in portable field case versions for portable power out in the field.

Batteries are manufactured in three different lithium chemistries

1) Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4)
2) Lithium Nickel Cobalt Manganese (LNCM)
3) Lithium Titanate Oxide (LTO)

The cell chemistry used is determined by the customers application requirements as each chemistry
has its own advantages and disadvantages. A brief overview of each type can be summarised as
follows

LiFePO4

LiFePO4 is often used due to its general safety characteristics. Lithium Batteries Australia introduced the first LiFePO4 battery to Australia in 2007 from the USA where it was invented and patented by Dr John Goodenough and his design team at the University of Texas. Lithium Batteries Australia was granted the agreement to supply these original patented cells from LiFeBatt USA who were one of only a handful of companies granted a licence to manufacture the genuine LiFePO4 cells and batteries using Phostech cathode powder (as licenced by the University of Texas). Our LiFePO4 cells feature an engineered design life of minimum 4000 cycles / 10+ years (based on one charge / discharge cycle per day).

LNCM

LNCM is our cobalt based lithium-ion cell and has the highest energy density (smallest and lightest weight with the ability to store the highest amount of energy in the smallest space). Most of the cobalt-based lithium-ion cells used in consumer applications such as in e-bikes and scooters, drones and many other applications are potentially hazardous- as the public hears about the battery fires caused by these cells on an almost daily basis in the media.

Our LNCM cells are all high safety cells and cannot catch on fire or explode, even if punctured by a bullet, pierced by a sharp object or dropped from a height onto a concrete surface. Our cells pass strict EUCAR safety levels with the results of all EUCAR safety testing providing an end test result from all tests of “no fire / no explosion”.

Our patented cell manufacturing technology combined with specialised cell additives / safety enhancers allow us to manufacture our Ion SafeX series LNCM cells which are the only high safety cobalt-based cells available anywhere in the world. Our LNCM cells feature an engineered design life of minimum 4000 cycles / 10+ years (based on one charge / discharge cycle per day).

LTO

LTO is characterised by its high safety and its extremely long working life. Miliary batteries Australia’s high power military grade LTO Ion SafeX cells are mostly used in rack mount and block style batteries for very long life, critical back up (UPS) power supply batteries and off grid energy. Due to their high discharge rate capability, they are also suitable for use in diesel engine cranking batteries and turbine engine aircraft ground power starting batteries. Our LTO batteries feature an engineered design life of 20,000 cycles / 50+ years (based on one charge / discharge cycle per day). This extremely long working life makes the LTO battery basically a “once in a lifetime battery” before replacement is due.

Specialised cells- We also use some specialised application cells such as our “Flash Charge” cells where super-fast charging is required. These cells are rated at a high 8C charge rate (ie, fast charging in under 10 minutes).

We also supply our intrinsically safe military grade bare LNCM drone pouch cells which are used to manufacture custom batteries for powering professional use drones.

All lithium-ion cells used by Military Batteries Australia are manufactured under several US patents. It is our strict company policy that we will never use any cells or BMS manufactured in China.

As the most reputable company in the Australian Lithium Battery manufacturing industry, Military Batteries Australia uphold the highest in ethics and will not reward any country / company who are engaged in the theft of intellectual property and who steal / copy / reproduce pirated or fake batteries of sub-standard quality, safety and reliability. None of the Chinese battery manufacturing companies has every paid any royalites to the USA to manufacture LiFePO4 cells under licence agreement even though the USA are the worldwide recognised inventor and patent holder of the LiFePO4 battery.
